The smoothing of the borderlines, by the way, is due to the depth of iteration used here. (If it was possible to plot the actual mathematical definition of the Mandelbrot Set (where the "depth" of iteration is infinite), the smoothing would never appear.)

Some numbers:
The part shown in picture 12 is, compared to picture 1, magnified by a factor of 18 billions. With this magnification, the first fractal would be about 10 million kilometers wide.
To give an idea of this number:
The radius of the orbit of the moon is approximately 400 000 kilometers.
The sun has a diameter of 1.3 million kilometers.
And light would need 33 seconds to cross the fractal.
